2026-2027 City Budget and State Revenue Sharing
The city handed the budget committee its proposed budget for the year ending June 30, 2027. Review starts next week with public works, and the council is scheduled to adopt a final budget by June 9.
Referendum scope and public safety fee
After the parks/library/museum levy failed, the city is moving to a flat fee. On a $400,000 home the levy would have cost $638 a year versus $236 for the fee, and the fee applies to all addresses while the levy only hit property owners. Board members worry the museum could close if the fee doesn't pass.
FY 2026-27 City Budget and Utility Fees
The city adopted a $51.8 million budget that relies on new utility bill fees to fund critical community services like parks, the library, and the museum after voters rejected a previous tax levy. While supporters argued the fees are necessary to keep core services open, critics raised concerns about adding costs to water bills without voter approval.
